At Shenandoah, we understand that Financial Aid is an important, and sometimes confusing, factor in your college search process. We are here to help you understand your Shenandoah University financial aid package and options.

Keeping the Shenandoah University community safe and secure is our primary concern, and customer service is our number one responsibility. Shenandoah University subscribes to the “community policing” model, which means we ask everyone for help with campus safety and security issues. If you observe anything that gives you cause for concern, do not hesitate to notify the Department of Campus Safety. We will promptly and professionally respond to each and every phone call or personal interaction. Campus Safety officers are available seven days a week, 24 hours a day every day of the year.

The Office of Residence Life encourages the growth and development of the Shenandoah residential community by fostering an atmosphere that promotes dynamic transformative learning, inclusivity, safety, and belonging.

The Wilkins Wellness Center strives to provide cost-effective quality primary and acute care, health education, and prevention services for all of our students. We are accepting all insurance for services provided at the clinic. We accept payment from the insurance company as payment in full for our services only. You must have a copy of your current insurance card on file on the portal and at your appointment.

The purpose of the Counseling Center is to provide confidential counseling services in order to help students achieve academic and personal goals. Counseling programs and services are offered to help students live more effective, responsible, and satisfying lives. Respect for privacy and the diversity of each campus community member will be employed so SU community members can feel confident in making informed decisions which will enhance the quality of their lives. A wellness philosophy serves as the foundation for all services and programs. Wellness helps students be more responsible for their lives and understand the factors that affect their well-being. Students are at greater risk when they meet demands and challenges without informed and reflective decision-making. In order to help our campus community maintain a healthy balance in life and success in academic, vocational, and personal goals, best practices in counseling, support, and referral services will be available.

The Division of Student Affairs is composed of departments and services that are designed to assist students. All of the departments and staff members seek out opportunities through programs and initiatives to enhance the learning process for students outside the classroom.

The mission of the CARE Team is to coordinate the support services of Shenandoah University in order to provide assistance to students that may be experiencing some potentially harmful or disturbing behaviors and promote academic success and safety through an appropriate, timely, and caring response. A student of concern is any student who is displaying behaviors that may get in the way of a student’s ability to be successful in the University environment.

Student Support Services, under the Division of Student Affairs, implements and coordinates student peer tutoring programs, study skills development courses and workshops, services for students with disabilities, and academic counseling. Services are free to all students enrolled in the university.

The Math Enrichment Center is a free tutoring center open to all Shenandoah University students. Tutors are available to help with math work from any discipline! The center may also be used as a resource for students who want a productive learning environment to study or work in groups. Students from all disciplines should be able to understand and apply the math skills beneficial to their course work, career goals, and interests. Initially conceived to reach struggling students who lack the prerequisite mathematical skills, the Math Enrichment Center strives to supplement the primary instruction students receive in class. In an effort to enhance and enrich students’ mathematical ability, the center provides assistance with homework, material review, and test preparation. The goals and vision for the Math Enrichment Center aligns with Shenandoah University’s mission to create lifelong learners, encourage personal and professional development, and cultivate an environment for students to experience positive change.

The Writing Center takes as its primary mission one-to-one instruction in writing for all SU students. The conferences between students and the Writing Center staff, either face-to-face or online, work to enable students to learn productive habits in pre-writing, drafting, revising, and editing. Using directive and non-directive instructional techniques, the Center’s staff encourages students to do their own work but to value consultation as a valuable part of composing. The ultimate goal of the Center is to develop more able student writers. When a student leaves the Writing Center after an appointment, he or she will be further along in the process of producing a polished piece of writing.

Career & Professional Development works with students and alumni in all aspects of the career development process, from choosing a major to career changes. Career development is a lifelong process influenced by all aspects of life, with the end result being high quality of life and personal satisfaction. Services offered include career exploration, experiential learning through internships, volunteer, summer and part-time opportunities, as well as resume building, interview skills workshops, graduate school search assistance, and job search assistance.

Technology is thoroughly integrated into the academic experience at Shenandoah University. Every student receives a MacBook Pro and iPad when they arrive, and professors use technology to engage students in and outside the classroom. Shenandoah received Apple Distinguished Program recognition two years in a row, and its Information Technology staff offers technological support whenever it’s needed.

The Center for Civic Engagement offers many opportunities for students to become “ethical, compassionate citizens who are committed to making responsible contributions within a community, nation, and world.” We provide opportunities for you to do this through volunteer service, dialogues across differences, and voter engagement. We want to provide leadership opportunities for students to grow personally and professionally in immersive experiences.

The Office of Student Leadership and Engagement is the home of Shenandoah University’s student organizations, the National Leadership Honor Society, the Student Government Association, a number of student employment positions, and summer programming!

The mission of the [Not Just] Women’s Center (NJWC) is to provide an overall safe, inviting and inclusive environment for all students. Any person, no matter their sex, gender, orientation, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, immigration status, or religious beliefs can be a victim of sexual assault. The NJWC is committed to a campus free of sexual violence and from the fear of violence. Students can expect confidential peer support and information regarding healthy sexuality, healthy relationships, the importance of consent, tools for survivors, positive body image, being an active bystander and ways to prevent sexual assault. We are committed to spreading awareness, speaking out against injustice, educating on prevention, and offering tools for intervention.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal Privacy Law that protects students’ education records. Shenandoah may release student information to parents if the following conditions are met:

• Consent to Release Education Records form is filled out and returned to the Registrar’s office (refer to form below)

• There is a health or safety emergency.
• The student is under 21 and has violated an SU rule related to alcohol or controlled substances.
